HOW HE GOT AWAY |
WHA/FREE AGENCY: Rather than sign with
California, Amodeo went to the new WHA in 1972 and remained in that league for
the next four seasons. Toward the end of his fifth professional season, spent
in Europe, Amodeo's NHL rights were no longer held by the Cleveland franchise,
which was preparing to fold. He returned to the WHA as a free agent with
Winnipeg in March 1978. When the WHA merged with the NHL in June 1979,
Winnipeg was able to keep his NHL rights since no other team owned them. |
