Management Career: Purchased
a stake in Kitchener Rangers (OHL) in 1988, joining team's Board of Directors. He became Kitchener (OHL) team
President and Governor prior to 1996-97 season and held that position through the 1999-00 season. He returned
to the role of team president for the 2002-03 season, when Kitchener won the
Memorial Cup, and for the 2006-07 through the 2008-09 seasons. He
retains an ownership position and currently is still on the Board of Directors, having played a
key role in bringing the 2008 Memorial Cup tournament to Kitchener.
Education: Attended
University of Waterloo.
Career Beyond Hockey: Returned
to Kitchener area and embarked on successful
career in real estate after retirement.
He began with Canada Trust Real Estate in 1980 before founding Waterloo-based
Royal
LePage Scharf Realty in 1989. He was President of the
Kitchener Waterloo Real Estate Board in 2010. ... Was a leading advocate
for growth of wheelchair hockey in Canada and was recognized in 2003 by
the Kitchener Sports Association when it created the annual Ted Scharf
Humanitarian Award to honor a Kitchener Rangers player who gives back to
his community. Future NHL star David Clarkson was the first player to
win the Scharf award.
