Invited at age 17 to join Team Canada for a pre-Olympic tournament in early
1968, although he did not earn a spot on the team that went to
Grenoble, France.
- Joined Canadian national team
program at age 18 in 1968 after spending two seasons in the
British Columbia Junior Hockey League with Penticton and New
Westminster.

Missed remainder of 1970-71 season with head injury and broken jaw
suffered in auto accident. The accident took place on the night of
Saturday, Jan. 8, 1971,
in Kansas City, where Taggart was playing for St. Louis' CHL
affiliate. He was taken to Research Hospital and placed in the
intensive-care unit, where he was pronounced to be in serious condition.
On Jan. 11, he remained in the hospital, but his condition was
upgraded to fair. He was released days later but did not return to
action until the start of the following season.
- Claimed by Salt Lake (WHL, Buffalo affiliate) from St. Louis in
Reverse Draft on June 9, 1971.
- Selected by Alberta Oilers in 1972 WHA General Player Draft, the
first draft in league history, in February 1972.

Played 18 regular-season games for 1972-73 Cincinnati team that went
on to win AHL regular-season and playoff titles, but was not with
team during playoffs.
