Played first NHL game in his hometown of Toronto. ... Missed part of 1984-85 season with shoulder and resulting back injury, suffered in January 1985. ... Rejected efforts by Toronto coaches to turn him into a fighter, and then fell out of favor with management for questioning Toronto team doctor's diagnosis of his shoulder injury and seeking a second opinion from the St. Catharines (AHL) team doctor.

HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: Philadelphia sent Strong to Toronto to complete the Jan. 20, 1982, deal in which Toronto traded Darryl Sittler to Philadelphia in exchange for Rich Costello, Hartford's 1982 second-round pick (Peter Ihnacak) and future considerations. Strong, the future considerations portion of the Sittler deal, became Toronto property in March 1982.
