Miscellaneous: Was seventh member of 1980 USA "Miracle on Ice" team to be drafted by an NHL team. ... Missed start of 1980 Olympics with stretched knee ligaments, making him the only member of the team (other than the backup goaltender) to miss games during the tournament. He had suffered the injury when checked by Valeri Vasiliev of the Soviet Union at an exhibition game in New York's Madison Square Garden just three days before the Olympics began. ... Returned to Chicago after his retirement and went into the financial services business on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. O'Callahan co-founded Beanpot Financial Services with former NHL player Jack Hughes, who also played college hockey at Harvard.

WAIVER DRAFT: Chicago left O'Callahan unprotected for the 1987 NHL Waiver Draft. He was claimed by New Jersey on October 5, 1987.
