game was also first game in Edmonton Oilers' NHL history and Wayne Gretzky's
first NHL game. ... Is one of only two players in NHL history (with Winnipeg's
Lars-Erik Sjoberg) to play first NHL game as a team captain. ... Played center
on line with 18-year-old Mark Messier at left wing for Edmonton in 1979-80.
... Was traded by Edmonton to Quebec while his mother was dying of leukemia in
Winnipeg. Learned of the deal while he was visiting her, and she died the day
after the trade. |

rights to Philadelphia in exchange for George Pesut on Dec. 11, 1974. When the
WHA and NHL merged in 1979, Philadelphia chose not to take Chipperfield in the
NHL's reclaim draft, and his NHL rights were retained by Edmonton. |
