1979-80: Played on first Edmonton Oilers NHL team.
Miscellaneous: Was available in 1974 NHL Amateur Draft because of league's
decision to allow drafting of underage players that year. He would later say
he made a mistake by not taking another year in junior hockey before signing
with Minnesota. ... Became youngest player to play for Minnesota (record since
broken) when he stepped on the ice for 1974-75 season opener at age 19 years,
4 months, 11 days. ... Wore No. 22 at Edmonton's 1979 training camp. ...
Scored first short-handed goal in Edmonton Oilers' NHL history vs.
Philadelphia on Nov. 15, 1979. ... Cracked collarbone during an October 1980
preseason game. ... Missed part of 1980-81 season with broken wrist, an injury
suffered in Edmonton's game vs. Los Angeles on Oct. 26, 1980. ... Missed part
of 1981-82 season with broken left ring finger, an injury suffered during a
fight with Colorado's Dave Cameron on Nov. 7, 1981. |

TRADE: Minnesota traded Hicks and its 1980
third-round pick (Marcel Frere) to Chicago in exchange for Eddie Mio and
future considerations (Pierre Plante) on March 14, 1978. Plante was sent to
Minnesota on May 4, 1978 to complete the deal. |
