Missed part of 1980-81 season with chronic neck problems related to pinched nerve. ... Traded by N.Y. Rangers with Jere Gillis to Quebec for Robbie Ftorek on Dec. 30, 1981, but chose to retire rather than report to Nordiques. He initially flew to Quebec and seemed willing to play for his new team, but had second thoughts about relocating and retired. The NHL allowed the trade to stand and gave the teams until March 9, 1982, to agree on a replacement player for Talafous.
