Pre-Draft Notes

Central Scouting Report: A good skater with impressive speed ... possesses good puck-handling and passing skills ... a creative playmaker with a good shot ... a face-off specialist ... has the ability to control the play in the offensive zone ... works well in the corners and along the boards ... has impressive size and strength and uses it to his advantage ... a tenacious forechecker who plays and intense and aggressive style ... a heavy body checker ... is very aware of his defensive responsibilities ... a mature player who is used in all game situations.

THN Draft Preview: This time last year, the buzz on Jakub Koreis was he was a guy to watch, but an injury-plagued season has hampered his development, and people are on the fence about him. One of the attributes scouts like is his so called "hockey sense." Koreis is a good passer and a good stickhandler who was injured (knee and leg) until late in the season. He played at the World Under-18 Championship, "but he was nothing," said a scout. Koreis could be tougher, but he competes hard.

Red Line Report: Big, strong as an ox, and great on faceoffs. He is strong in all facets of the game, and plays just as hard in the defensive zone as he does on offense. Very solid on his skates -- impossible to knock him off the puck. Uses body well to shield puck and cycle down low. A real horse -- power center who finishes his checks. Very good hand/eye coordination and puck control. Has the power to bull his way to net, and the finesse to thread saucer passes through traffic. A very complete player. Can be the type of power center every team covets; will play at close to 220 and be able to match up against the likes of Lindros, Holik, and Brind'Amour. Has powerful stride, decent hands, and good enough puck skills to become an offensive force.
Projection: 2nd-line power center. Style compares to Bobby Holik.

Pre-Draft Quotes

He is a big guy and he is smart, but skating is an issue. But he is a pretty smart kid.

He is a typical finesse player, and he has shown a couple of times that he won't shy away from the rough stuff either. He will end up being a solid 6-foot-3 guy who works hard and makes plays.

To me, hockey sense is almost as important as skating, and he has good hockey sense.
