Missed remainder of 1986-87 regular season and entire 1987 playoffs with torn ligaments in left knee, an injury suffered when he collided with Craig Muni during Winnipeg's Nov. 26, 1986, game at Edmonton. HOW HE GOT AWAY
FREE AGENCY: Jarvenpaa never signed with Montreal, because he felt he was too young and not ready to play in the NHL. His NHL rights lapsed after four years rather than the normal five years, because he had been 19 at the time he was drafted. He became eligible for the draft again in 1986 and was selected by Winnipeg.
