HOW HE GOT AWAY |
WHA/FREE AGENCY: Gorman was already playing
in the WHA when Montreal drafted him, and he returned to that league after the
draft. When the WHA and NHL merged in 1979, Gorman became an unrestricted free
agent because his last team, Birmingham, had folded after the 1978-79 season.
He signed with Atlanta in August 1979. Montreal got Gorman's rights back from
Calgary when it obtained him in a September 1980 trade for Tim Burke. Montreal
lost him again when he played out his option in 1980-81 and signed with the
Buffalo organization as an unrestricted free agent on June 30, 1981. |
