Coaching/Management Career:
Settled in Whitby, Ontario, after his retirement and worked as a
minor-hockey coach and administrator, coaching his sons and winning two
OMHA championships. He eventually played a big role in bringing major
senior hockey back to Whitby in 2004 and served as one of the team's
executives for its first two seasons. In September 2006, he took over as
President of the
Whitby Dunlops (OHA Sr.), and continues to run the team.
Family: Father of former
minor-leaguers Justin Cardwell and Matt Cardwell.
Missed part of 1972-73 season with broken arm, an injury suffered during Pittsburgh's Nov. 4, 1972, game vs. N.Y. Rangers. He did not return until Pittsburgh's Dec. 19, 1972, game vs. Boston.
