Appearance in Slap Shot:
While playing for the Mohawk Valley Comets, Hamill was one of the many
NAHL players to appear as an extra in the movie Slap Shot. He
worked for seven days during the 1976 filming of the movie in Johnstown,
Pa. and appears in the famous scene that shows the
Hanson Brothers'
first shift. Wearing a green No. 12 uniform for the opposing team,
Hamill is hit hard and slashed by the Hansons before being beaten
senseless by all three of them in the corner and left along the boards
to fall on his back in pain. He also takes a punch from one of the
Hansons in the ensuing bench-clearing brawl.
Career Beyond Hockey: Returned
to Binghamton after his retirement in 1977 and went into the insurance
business, working for National Life. He later became an investment
advisor and financial consultant for
NPA Financial, LLC.
Family: Son of former NHL
player and 1939 Stanley Cup champion Robert "Red" Hamill, who was
playing for Chicago when Frank was born.
