Vipond became a lacrosse coach after retirement, starting with the Junior A Whitby Warriors, whom he led to the Minto Cup in 1984. He then moved on to the Brooklin Redmen and led them to 84 straight wins from 1987 to 1989 as well as four Mann Cup championships between 1985 and 1990. He left the Redmen after winning his final Mann Cup in 2000 as the owner of the Canadian Lacrosse Association's all-time record for coaching victories at the Senior A major level (322 wins). His primary reason for stepping down was his need to focus on his hockey duties with Oshawa of the OPJHL. Vipond returned to lacrosse in late 2002 when he was named asssistant coach of the National Lacrosse League's New Jersey Storm. He remained an assistant until being named the Storm's hhead coach on Feb. 22, 2003. After that first season, he remained with the team when it relocated to Anaheim, Calif., before being relieved of his duties on Jan. 30, 2004. .He was next named head coach of Ottawa Titans (Ontario Jr. A) on Dec. 1, 2004, and remained in that position through 20056 season. Two years later, he returned to the Brooklin Redmen as co-head coach in 2008 and remained in that position until his retirement after the 2009 season. Vipond's honors for his lacrosse career are numerous. He was inducted into the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in the Builders category in 2006, and named co-Coach of Year in Major Series Lacrosse for his work reviving the Brooklin Redmend during the 2008 season.
