Anderson was part of a controversy in June 1973 when Boston (AHL) tried to claim him from Montreal in the annual Reverse Draft -- even though he had already been traded to Minnesota. The controversy dated back to the June 6, 1972, trade that sent Anderson from Montreal to the Islanders and the subsequent return of Anderson to Montreal when he and Tony Featherstone failed to make the Islanders roster out of training camp in 1972. Rochester, which claimed Featherstone, and Boston, which claimed Anderson, both said this was done to circumvent the 1973 Reverse Draft. Boston Bruins general manager Harry Sinden, on behalf of his AHL team, went ahead and claimed Anderson, feeling his trade to Minnesota should be voided. NHL President Clarence Campbell ruled him ineligible for the Reverse Draft because he was never listed on either the Islanders' or Montreal NHL rosters even though he had signed an NHL contract with the Islanders before being returned.
February 1971 -- Loaned by Montreal (AHL) to Rochester for balance of 1970-71 season. June 6, 1972 -- Traded by Montreal with Glenn Resch, Denis DeJordy, Tony Featherstone, Alex Campbell, and future considerations (Germain Gagnon on June 26) to N.Y. Islanders in exchange for cash and agreement not to select certain Montreal players in expansion draft. October 1972 -- Rights sold by N.Y. Islanders with Tony Featherstone back to Montreal. May 29, 1973 -- Traded by Montreal with Tony Featherstone to Minnesota in exchange for future considerations (cash). June 12, 1974 -- Selected by Washington from Minnesota in NHL Expanion Draft.
