The point became moot when King decided not to cut either one of his goaltenders to make room for Hrudey. ... Made guest appearance on the PBS show "Reading Rainbow" during summer of 1987 in a segment where he offered goaltending tips to the show's host, LeVar Burton. ... Assigned by Los Angeles to Phoenix (IHL) for one-game conditioning stint during 1995-96 season. ... Was active in charitable causes during his playing days, including work as chairman of N.Y. Islanders' auction to benefit Easter Seals. ... Served as head coach for CHL Top Prospects game on Jan. 31, 2002. ... Returned to home in Calgary after retirement and began writing weekly hockey column for local newspaper, in addition to broadcasting work.

HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: N.Y. Islanders traded Hrudey to Los Angeles in exchange for Mark Fitzpatrick, Wayne McBean and future considerations (Doug Crossman) on Feb. 22, 1989. Crossman was sent to N.Y. Islanders to complete the deal on May 23, 1989.
