HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: Minnesota traded Smith to Montreal in exchange for Keith Acton, Mark Napier and 1984 third-round pick (Toronto) (Ken Hodge Jr.) on October 28, 1983. Nearly seven years later, Minnesota got Smith back when it obtained him from Montreal in exchange for 1992 fourth-round pick (Louis Bernard) on August 7, 1990.
