in Winnipeg/Phoenix franchise history when he stopped 20 shots to blank N.Y. Islanders on Feb.
12, 1980, in a 0-0 game at Uniondale, N.Y. ... Recorded first home shutout in
Winnipeg/Phoenix franchise history when he blanked Hartford 7-0 on March 26,
1980. ... Missed part of 1982-83 season with left knee injury suffered during

| HOW HE GOT AWAY |
| WHA/EXPANSION: Mattsson never signed with
N.Y. Islanders, instead jumping to the WHA. He did not enter the NHL until the
1979 NHL-WHA merger. N.Y. Islanders regained his rights in NHL Reclaim Draft on June 9,
1979, but Winnipeg immediately took him back as part of its privilege to protect three players from its WHA franchise. |
