The signing prompted a lawsuit from the Ontario Hockey Association, but a judge ruled in Tonelli's favor because he was a legal adult and could not be bound by any previous contracts. ... Skipped 1975 OMJHL playoffs and Memorial Cup tournament because he had already signed a pro contract. ... Houston was forced to give up its 1976 first-round WHA draft pick to compensate for Tonelli's underage signing. ...
