| HOW HE GOT AWAY |
| WHA/TRADE: Cloutier was already starring for
Quebec in the WHA at
the time Chicago selected him. He did not enter the NHL until the 1979 NHL-WHA
merger. Chicago had the right to take him back in the 1979 NHL Reclaim Draft,
but allowed him to remain with his last WHA team, Quebec, in exchange for its
1980 first-round pick (Denis Savard) on June 9, 1979. The trade enabled Quebec
to save room on the list of three players it was allowed to protect from its
WHA team. |
